Cantor Sam Rosen

Cantor Sam Rosen (he, him) is from Sugar Land, Texas and completed Bachelor’s degrees in Music (Ethnomusicology) and Jewish Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. After five years in Austin, he moved to New York City with his partner Jason and earned a Master’s degree in Jewish History at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. During this time, he became an active member of CBST, participating in the renowned CBST Chorus for three years.
In May 2022, he was ordained a cantor at the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Cantor Rosen is thrilled to serve as CBST’s full-time cantor in partnership with Music Director Joyce Rosenzweig and the clergy team. Cantor Rosen currently serves on the CCAR Press Editorial Advisory Committee for the creation of a new volume with the working title Mishkan T’hillim: Psalms Throughout our Lives. His Sephardi and Ashkenazi heritage, music, foods, and family journeys inspire him to serve the Jewish community through many different lenses. An avid home cook, Cantor Rosen loves sharing recipes and culinary creations with friends near and far. He is excited to learn from each of you and share a passion for Jewish music, history, and prayer with the CBST community and the world at large.
