An excerpt from Rabbi Kleinbaum's letter to clergy:

Dear Colleague,

In these times of intolerance and suspicion, please join with us in supporting WorldPride in Jerusalem .  I am immensely proud of the efforts of those who are trying to show the world a Jerusalem which is open and loving rather than the Jerusalem so often projected of violence and bigotry.  We are gathering a list of international clergy to present to the media and to the Israeli government.  As an expression of support for WorldPride, sign a clergy letter in support of WorldPride and pass it to your colleagues.

Petition: We the undersigned clergy are appalled that fellow members of clergy are calling for a halt to WorldPride, scheduled as a peaceful gathering in Jerusalem for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals from around the globe. Those who would come to Jerusalem to celebrate the diversity of the world we live in are imbued with the same spirit of God that those clergy preaching intolerance would claim belongs only to them. The religious right does not own the mantle of holiness. Jerusalem, a living, holy city, a pilgrimage site for people of many faiths and many beliefs, increases in holiness when all are welcome within her walls. The right to assemble is fundamental to all healthy democracies. At this time in history we stand together seeking to advance the rights of all people to proclaim their unique holiness. We must take a stand against those who would quiet the voices of freedom.
