Koleinu

Koleinu ("Our Voice") is CBST’s social justice advocacy initiative. By identifying social issues of common concern among members, Koleinu aims to strengthen our community and more effectively amplify our voice and our efforts to promote justice in the wider world. Koleinu is divided into two action teams which meet regularly to plan, agitate and take action. To learn more contact our Social Justice Coordinator, Alana Krivo-Kaufman, at akrivokaufman@cbst.org .

Our two action teams, Marriage Equality/LGBT Rights and Elder Care/Health Care were formed in Spring 2009. The Action Teams meet monthly and are open to all CBST members.

Over time, Koleinu will continue its listening campaign within our community to identify new areas of concern and involve more members in our work.

Anyone interested in learning more about Koleinu or getting involved can send an email to Koleinu@cbst.org  or to our Social Justice Coordinator, Alana Krivo-Kaufman, at akrivokaufman@cbst.org .

Koleinu's Healthcare/ Eldercare Action Team is working to improve healthcare and eldercare for LGBTQ people in New York. Recent successes include LGBTQ competency training in city public healthcare facilities, building influence with a local care facility and gathering statistics on the health needs of the CBST community. We are working for systemic change in the health care system through forging relationships with care providers and focusing on the healthcare and insurance needs of transgender New Yorkers. The team co-chairs are Liz Scheier and Bruce Pachter. For more information, email koleinu@cbst.org .
