The LGBT Synagogue / Community

Community

At CBST, we believe it is important to foster a sense of camaraderie and community, and there are many opportunities for you to form social ties with fellow members.

First Fridays

Come to “First Friday” services, the first Friday of each month; following services join with congregants, guests, and clergy for kiddush and a shmooze .

Wednesday: Lunch at the Dish
From discussion of LGBT anti-discrimination laws to debates about Israeli politics, The Dish group is sure to make your lunch hour more enjoyable. The group meets upstairs at The Dish restaurant, 8th Avenue and West 21st Street, every Wednesday at noon.

People come to CBST’s Lehrhaus to learn, but even more significantly, they come to connect with others. At CBST we can ask the questions that challenge us, trouble us, and inspire us, and in doing so create an intimate community of learners within the larger CBST community. We can study Judaism on our own terms, claim its sacred texts as our own, and take our own place among the countless generations of Jewish learners. Here we honor our own life experiences and include them in the ongoing narrative of Jewish life. Our adult bnai mitzvah cohort will become Bnai Mitzvah this year; join us in celebrating their accomplishment.
