Shelter of Peace Mobilizes Faith Community Around Youth Homelessness
On the weekend of January 20-22, 2012, over 20 congregations participated in the Shelter of Peace Weekend of Prayer and Learning. People of faith heard throughout New York City that they cannot stand idly by and let 3,800 youth sleep in the cold any longer.
Bring the Festival of Lights to Elderly Jews
Many elderly Jews are shuttered away from the welcoming embrace of the light of Chanukah. During Chanukah, CBST and Koleinu's Healthcare/ Eldercare Campaign will bring Chanukah candlelighting to Jewish Home and Life Care, at 106th Street near Columbus Ave.
Join CBST for a few hours one evening from December 20th to 27th in creating a Festival of Light for those elders who may have no family with whom to light candles.
CBST's 40th Anniversary Book
To celebrate CBST's 40th anniversary, we are publishing a history of our synagogue. Through our stories, photographs, and memorabilia, the book will chronicle the history of nearly a half century of LGBT Jewish life in New York. We have engaged Rabbi Ayelet Cohen to write the book. Using CBST's archives, newsletters, photographs, press clippings, interviews with members, and more, she is weaving our memories into a compelling narrative.

Religion Dispatches Magazine interviews Moshe Shokeid, author of “A Gay Synagogue in New York.” Shokeid is a mainstream Israeli anthropologist who spent years studying and writing about CBST. Shokeid’s book, an ethnography of CBST, provides an interesting perspective on the congregation, its role within Judaism, and the relationship between religion and sexuality for LGBT Jews.
