CBST's New Social Justice Blog!

Welcome to CBST’s new social justice blog! Along with the fabulous redesign of our website, CBST will now be offering regular updates on different social justice events and topics both in CBST and beyond. We will have regular updates from Koleinu, our Congregation Based Community Organizing initiative, as well as our exciting work in building a Jewish LGBTQ movement, like Rabbi Kleinbaum and I attending the National Jewish LGBT Movement Building Convening in Berkeley a few weeks ago. Prop 8

Judge Walker's decision last week to overturn Proposition 8 in California is a momentous and prophetic one--a decision that cries for a more just world. Despite the appeal, August 4, 2010 is a date that will go down in the history books. The question I am stuck with now is: Whose history books will record this day?

Koleinu Co-Chair, Adam Berger, Announces the Campaign

For the past two years, CBST members have been engaged in the process of Congregation Based Community Organizing . They’ve conducted a listening campaign, developed two actions teams, had a two Koleinu shabbatot, hosted a report back to the community, conducted research meetings with seven different community-based organizations, and launched their first campaign. Now, the Healthcare/Eldercare Action Team is in full swing as they are gearing up to target care institutions in the city to better serve LGBTQ individuals.
