CBST's New Social Justice Blog!
Welcome to CBST’s new social justice blog! Along with the fabulous redesign of our website, CBST will now be offering regular updates on different social justice events and topics both in CBST and beyond. We will have regular updates from Koleinu, our Congregation Based Community Organizing initiative, as well as our exciting work in building a Jewish LGBTQ movement, like Rabbi Kleinbaum and I attending the National Jewish LGBT Movement Building Convening in Berkeley a few weeks ago. We’ll also discuss hot social justice topics in the world at large, like the conversion bill in the Knesset or same-sex marriage in Argentina.
The possibilities are endless! Well, maybe not endless—but certainly many. We also hope this will be a space for dialogue where members can share their thoughts on different issues and the work that we’re doing at CBST. A lot of the work that CBST does often remains behind the scenes to most of our members. For example, did you know that Rabbi Kleinbaum was invited to serve on the Mayor’s Commission on LGBTQ Runaway and Homeless Youth this year? Or that CBST organized a conference for rabbinical and cantorial students in March to learn about topics like inclusive curriculum in Hebrew schools, LGBTQ liturgy and the CBST siddur, and pastoral care for LGBTQ elders? It’s true! We did! And we’ve done, and will do, a whole lot more. And here’s where you can find out about it!
Have a question about the blog or an idea for something you’d like to see covered? Send me an email at aweissman@cbst.org or comment here!
And a first question to pose to you—what, if anything, should we name the blog? Thoughts?
