This series of classes is offered through CBST’s Lehrhaus Judaica Adult and Family Education program.

Lehrhaus Class: High Holy Day Trope
Have you ever wanted to read from the Torah on High Holy Days? Learn the special trope for the Days of Awe from our master Torah trope teacher, Jack Greenberg.  Participants will learn how to chant the specific passages read on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Prerequisite: participants should know how to leyn Torah in Shabbat trope.  Questions? Please contact Rabbi Weiss.

Lehrhaus Class: Learning the Torah Service
"Vezot Ha’torah…" Learn about the Torah service!  The centerpiece of a Shabbat or Yom Tov morning service, the Torah service has many special traditions, rituals, and moving parts.  Join Rabbi Weiss as we explore the history of these customs, the words of the blessings themselves, the architecture and the choreography of the Torah service.  This course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn to participate in the Torah service as gabbai, Torah reader, Torah lifter/hagbah, etc.  Always wanted to try lifting the Torah?  To learn the proper way to safely carry the Torah scroll?  Get up close and personal with our most sacred ritual objects.  No experience necessary, come ready for a hands-on course.

Lehrhaus Class: Hebrew, Blessings and Gender
CBST offers many different ways of reciting the aliyah blessings over the Torah.  Confused?  You're not alone!  Learn the blessings in their traditional and Reconstructionist forms, in both masculine and feminine Hebrew.  Learn why the blessings are constructed the way they are, and how to pronounce these sacred words.  No experience or knowledge of Hebrew necessary - Rabbi Weiss will guide you through the words, the melody, and the gendered language.
