Shabbat Morning Services: Liberal Format
Jul 10, 2010 - 10:00 am
Bethune sanctuary
57 Bethune St
For these liberal Shabbatot we daven in a consciously modern context.
Second and Fourth Saturday morning of the month, 10:00 am
This morning service uses the Reconstructionist prayer book, Kol Haneshamah. Both the prayer book and the service combine traditional and contemporary liturgy in both Hebrew and English. We read from the Torah according to the triennial cycle and discuss the week’s Torah portion.
In addition to a specific torah aliyah/blessings for healing, there is always a aliyah/blessing for yahrtzeit/memory, providing a unique opportunity to remember someone special in your life that has passed, whether recently or a long time ago. There is also one for s'machot/celebrations. This is a great opportunity to celebrate with community a birthday, an anniversary, a job promotion, or even a new exercise regimen.
The service ends at approximately 12:30 pm and is followed by a kiddush lunch.
