In this course we will become familiar with the liturgy of the Shabbat morning service and explore the parallels in the Friday night service. We will learn the history of the service and discover how it came to look as it does today, understand its structure, and its similarities and differences to the Friday night service.

We will study from the Reconstructionist Movement’s Kol Haneshamah siddur (prayer book), the siddur of CBST’s Shabbat Morning Minyan, with comparisons to our Friday night siddur and various other siddurim in use by CBST’s Traditonal Egalitarian Minyan and elsewhere at CBST. Students enrolled in this class must attend one of the CBST Shabbat morning minyanim at least once a month.

Please purchase Kol Haneshamah: Shabbat Vechagim, The Reconstructionist Press. This class builds on “Welcoming Shabbat,” taught this fall. If you were not enrolled in that class please contact Rabbi Cohen.
