Meet the sofrot/sofrim (scribes) working on our Torah Project.
Meet the sofrot/sofrim involved in various aspects of our project.
The bulk of our Torah is being written by a sofer (scribe) in Israel. He spends most of his days writing in a solitary environment. He is reserving sections at the end of some of the books of the Torah with letters for us to fill in.
We will also be working closely with these sofrim/sofrot, who will be coming to CBST to teach and to guide us in filling in the letters:
Jen Taylor Friedman, http://www.hasoferet.com , a soferet and scholar and the first woman in modern times known to have written a complete sefer Torah. Ms. Friedman will be teaching and leading Torah writing days at CBST on February 24 and March 21.
Rabbi Gedalia Druin, the scribe/educator behind Sofer on Site http://www.soferonsite.com , who is our liaison with the Israeli sofer who is writing our Torah. He will be teaching and leading Torah writing days at CBST on April 14-15.
Rabbi Linda Motzkin, soferet and co-rabbi of Temple Sinai in Saratoga Springs, www.templesinaisaratogasprings.org/rabbis.html . Rabbi Motzkin taught at our opening celebration on December 8 and will join us at the Annual Congregational Retreat Shabbaton at Camp Isabella Friedman on April 24-25.
